802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE upgrade for the 2011-2012 15 inch MacBook Pros and 13 inch non-Retina MacBook Pro
The new wireless standard is here for all Macs – 802.11ac. If you have a newest model MacBook Pro, the built-in AirPort card is only able to use the 802.11n wireless standard which is approximately half the speed of 802.11ac. The AC specification has expected multistation WLAN throughput of at least 1 gigabit per second and a single link throughput of at least 500 megabits per second. This card is engineered by QuickerTek to work inside your Mac. Utilizing the same chipset and drivers as the MacBook Pro model, these cards can be used to upgrade Pros to the newest Wi-Fi standard of 802.11ac. BlueTooth 4.0 LE is also enabled and uses the same number of internal antennas as the latest generation of Macs with 10.11.x.
It means that you can get double the speed you’re getting now with the 802.11n WiFi network. 802.11ac utilizes the 5gHz spectrum as well as the 2.4 gHz standard capable of 802.11n. All you have to do is take the old AirPort card out and put the new one in. As long as you have an operating system of 10.9.5 to 10.11.x installed, your Unibody Mac will recognize it instantly, giving you access to 802.11ac speeds at any compatible wireless access 802.11a/b/g/n/ac.
